How to start a running club
Running clubs work because the format is simple: pick a time, pick a place, and show up. The challenge is turning a handful of friends into a club that keeps going when the weather turns. This guide covers the practical steps.
Pick a route, a time and a level
Be specific about who the club is for. A beginner-friendly 5k on Saturday mornings attracts a very different crowd from a marathon training group, and being clear about it means the right people turn up. Choose a safe, well-known meeting point.
Give the club a home
You need one link to share on socials and with friends: a page that explains the club, shows the next run, and lets people join. A free ClubCP club gives you exactly that, with your name, logo and a place for members to sign up.
Track who is coming
Publishing each run as an event lets people RSVP, so you know numbers in advance and can check people in on the day. Over time that gives you a real membership list rather than a group chat that nobody reads.
Add memberships when you are ready
Many running clubs eventually add a small membership fee to cover insurance, kit or social events. You can add paid memberships whenever it makes sense, and collect them through Stripe with the money going to the club.
ClubCP is free for every club and built by one person. Sponsor on GitHub to keep features like this coming.
