How to start a book club that lasts
A good book club is part reading group, part social event. The reading takes care of itself; what kills book clubs is the admin of picking dates, remembering who is hosting, and keeping everyone in the loop. Solve that and your club will run for years.
Set a rhythm and stick to it
Monthly is the sweet spot: enough time to read, not so long that people drift. Pick the same week each month so it becomes a habit rather than a negotiation.
Keep everything in one place
Instead of a sprawling group chat, give the club a page where the next meeting, the current book and the member list all live. A free ClubCP club does this, and members can RSVP so the host knows numbers.
Rotate hosting and picks
Sharing the load keeps a book club healthy. Rotate who chooses the book and who hosts, and post it in advance so nobody is caught out.
ClubCP is free for every club and built by one person. Sponsor on GitHub to keep features like this coming.
